Proposal for Global Day of Action & No Border CampsThis proposal was read at the Encuentro with the Zapatista Communities and the People of the World in Oventic on January 2nd 2007 in the plenary session for the Intergalatic Encuentro as a proposal for a theme to the Intergalactic and a Global Call to Action. To: The zapatista compañer@s, EZLN, the Sexta Commission, the adheirants of the OtherCampaign, Civil Society National and International, the people of the world. From: Participants in the network realizing No Border Camps in fall of 2007 present at the Encuentro de los Pueblos Zapatistas con los Pueblos del mundo We are currently a group of migrants and anarchist collectives from Mexico: Tijuana, Ensenada, Mexicali, Ciudad Juarez, D.F., Oaxaca, Chiapas and different collectives in the United States: San Diego, New York City, Tuscon, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Portland, Raleigh and the Monterey Bay Area who are in unconditional solidarity with the indigenous, the migrant people of the world and the anarchist collectives in Mexico. Many of us collectively and individually are adherents to The Other Campaign. We are anarchists, students, teachers, workers, artists, indigenous, media makers, queers, mothers, women, men and others. Together we are working to create a world without borders. We believe that borders are prisons and that all people in prison for crossing “illegally†are political prisoners. Tear down the prison walls! As long as they are in prison, none of us are free...

Oaxaca is an ExampleYesterday we met with a number of anarchist organizers from Oaxaca who gave us a much clearer picture of the broader situation in Oaxaca. For now, so many people were scattered after the intense repression of Novermber 25th and are in hiding, that they are working outside of the center of Oaxaca City, in other places, but are still organizing and building. One of the things being worked on is a new widspread attempt at creating autonomous media in Oaxaca. But the main message is that people are still organizing and planning and the battle for Oaxaca is not over. Recently plans were announced to begin planton's outside of the jails in Oaxaca to focus on the demand of the release of the political prisoners. There are over 140 prisoners still, some with bails like $20000 USD, which are set as such because they can never raise that much money. They also tell us that in many cases, people have ben arrested under false charges. What they tell us is that Oaxaca is an example in many, many ways. In one way, it is an example of how a city can riseup in a mass uprising that is not limited to small groups, when faced with the intense exploitation of neoliberalism...
Oaxaca will not be forgotten!Having left Oaxaca I am conscious of many people´s stories and accounts of violant repression by the pfp sactioned by the state.
El amanecer en Chiapas / Sunrise in ChiapasIt's 6:15 in the morning and the sun is starting to rise over the forested hills of San Cristobal, Chiapas. This will be our third day here. In an hour, we will get on the back of a pickup truck headed for Oventic, one of the Zapatista communities. There we will participate in the Zapatista encounter with the peoples of the world for the next four days. We will be camping along with hundreds of other participants and attending workshops on different aspects of the Zapatista movement. Tomorrow night there will be a No Border Camp meeting with activists from the States, Mexico and hopefully other countries and we are all very excited. Yesterday we had a very good meeting about the camp with about 15 people from the States and Mexico and there was a lot of interest and very good discussions. Vamos a ver!
from oaxaca to chiapaswe're in san cristobal now. lots of people are here from around the world to go to the zaptista encuentro. its so good to see old friends again and have a beer with them before spending a week in the jungle. people here want to know what the situation it like in oaxaca. my best sumamry is calm but tense, police all over the city, some tourists and tons of people in hiding. i hear stories here about how people who were in oaxaca on the barricades have federal warrants out for their arrest and the police are distributing their photos. those who got out, a friend tells me, look totally different now, different hair, different clothes, anything to stay in hiding. the repression is intense. theres some talk of going back to oaxaca after the encuentro, but lots of people just cant go back because they're being searched for intensely...
Torture, resistance and hope in oaxacaI´m in an internet cafe and only have a few minutes to write this. We´re leaving oaxaca in half an hour for the intergalactic encuentro in Oventic, Chiapas. We´ve been here for a few days. Meeting with members of the organizations here involved in the APPO has been incredibly difficult. We´ve been trying for days to meet with people from COMPA and CIPO and other people working on media projects, but so many people are in hiding and some of them cant answer their phones. The situation is still very tense. I feel lucky to be escaping the city without harm. One teacher told us that they all used to proudly wear their APPO tshirts, but that now it is a crime and none of them can. He says that even showing their membership card for Section 22 of the teachers union anywhere will get them thrown in jail. Graffiti in support of the APPO or against ulyses is painted over, right next to other graffiti that is left alone. Still, people spray paint Fuera URO and APPO in the whit stripes of paint, showing that the campaign of repression continues and the resistance continues as well...
