Peoples' Global Action Conference in Europe
Submitted by PGA Communications on Thu, 07/27/2006 - 8:45amFrance/ Switzerland, 19th August - 3rd September 2006
PGA - People's Global Action - started in 1997. It has been a tool and a diffuse structure coordinating groups and people sharing common struggles and practices, in accordance with various anticapitalist and anti-authoritarian principles (see hallmarks). PGA initiated the Intercontinental caravan in 1999, as well as international action days of actions against the G8, the WTO, the World Bank, the IMF... In Seattle, Genoa, Prague, and in a number of less mediatic events, PGA was a driving force behind numerous actions and reflections. Amidst counter-summits, social forums & various actions, groups close to the PGA are now looking for new drives to challenge stagnation.
PGA Asian Caravan - Discusssion
Submitted by PGA Communications on Thu, 07/27/2006 - 8:08amDear Friends:
We are sending this message in the spirit of solidarity to all PGA friends in order to initiate the PGA Asia caravan that was agreed by the PGA Asian Regional and Gender Conference, held in Dhaka, in 2004. We request that movement contacts reply with suggestions and comments as soon as possible in order to initiate this process.
PGA ASIA Caravan 2007
Background
At the PGA Asian Regional and Gender Conference, held in Dhaka, 2004, movements decided to participate in a PGA Asia caravan in 2006. Given the time need to prepare such a process, it is suggested that the caravan take place in 2007. Given the recent lack of activity within the PGA network, we feel that the focus on this caravan project would help regenerate political energies of solidarity between grassroots movements in Asia.
"What is PGA?" Package Update
Submitted by PGA Communications on Tue, 07/18/2006 - 10:39amThe making of an updated pamphlet that contains the history, hallmarks, and main ideas behind the Peoples' Global Action network. Collaboration and publication assistance appreciated!
PGA Global Envoy (working title)
Submitted by PGA Communications on Tue, 07/18/2006 - 10:37amThe idea for this project is a newspaper that circulates online and in print, collecting stories from different resistance movements worldwide. The online database for the global justice movement, www.all4all.org, can serve as a beginning space of organizing local stories. The "publishing center" can rotate from one place to another, giving the newspaper a different localized flavor every time, with possible thematic or regional focus. This newspaper might also include artwork and/or poetry, analytical or editorial pieces, photographs from different struggles and events, as well as educational resources, links, and contacts to groups participating in the network. The process of distributing the "Envoy" through paper and online channel requires further consideration, keeping in mind issues of translation and the disproportionate access that groups may have to the internet, as well as to copier machines. This blog site will hopefully organize the process as it develops along.
PGA "Cultures in Action" Package
Submitted by PGA Communications on Tue, 07/18/2006 - 10:36amThe PGA "Cultures in Action" Package is a project to create a tangible, circulating 'capsule' that contains a collection of music, artwork, poetry, stories, movies, culture maps, and tokens of protest from various(ever-growing) PGA inspired groups worldwide. This capsule can be sent out and recieved, one could make copies of its contents, one could contribute to it for it to expand. It is intended to be a kind of mobile "withoutborders-rebelion-culture-festival-in-a-package" that is both personalized and transcommunal. So it actually travels, by mail or from hand-to-hand as a capsule (or many capsules) with a kaleidescopic protest and alternative nature. The content, costs for shipping&handling, packaging, versatility etc. need to be worked out. Input and collaboration greatly appreciated!
